Icarus, Space exploration, America, and Reality

You must blame my Blogging buddies JM, Cheechdog and the Nolanimrod if this Post offends you.

 JM you will find in

Cheechdog you will find everywhere if he doesn’t find you first and the Nolanimrod can be found in pensive mood as always in his Home Page:

I contributed to JM’s recent Post as above [with the latest debt ceiling woes in America and Iran putting a War Fleet in the Atlantic Ocean in the back of my mind] when I remembered Icarus, the fellow who wanted to fly to the sun in old Mythology and the irony struck me.

Many Folks in America seem surprised about the Iran decision and most are down in the dumps about their Country having lost their dominance in Space.  These things are only natural developments that they must expect if they keep on messing around in Iraq, Afghan, Egypt, Libya and Syria and on and on.

As for the pipe dream of Space dominance they should thank their lucky stars that are at last rid of the Kennedy bunch, whose Jack had started the Moon Dream in order to get enough American votes to take him to the White House.

Most people know that I am an agnostic about modern science.  Those who don’t know I ask to read my comments in JM’s Post and if it turns out to be relevant I shall publish the correspondence between us on Mankind and the Neanderthals that I allude to in the JM Post.

Americans should learn by observing and following some of the examples of Russia and China.  Words like communism, socialism, Marxism should be scrapped from America’s list of imaginary threats.  These words are meaningless in today’s World; rather look at the mess you landed in with unbridled Capitalism and Freedom.

Forget about Space Exploration and American dominance lost in it.  It was a pipe dream; concentrate on that debt ceiling and a solution for it.

Well, I am into it so I may as well complete my legacy and make an utter fool of myself.

Forget about alternative fuel, earth warming and clean coal to name but a few.  It’s pure nonsense, as is the pipe dream of wind energy, which in turn is no less a myth than old Icarus in his efforts to reach the Sun.

Do as the Russians, China, India and many others; energy means coal and oil and will so for as long we live unless America really goes ahead to blow up the rest of the World; with a man like Obama at the helm you may just be silly enough to try it.

One last completely idiotic statement should do it and destroy my credibility forever, but I shall put it in the form of two questions.  Who says oil and coal are non-renewable resources?  Who says the resources are not being renewed from the bottom up as we draw from the top?  I say they are being renewed every day in the same manner as the Lord Creator planned and provided a long time ago.  Who says new diamonds are not at this moment being formed by the same old process from which the first one that we found had come to be?

Now have a go at me if you wish.

Relax, Ike, you’re safe (for now). I agree with you that we tend to worry about the wrong things (as well as some of the right things). What’s wrong with the world? in a nutshell, it is the same now as it has always been – greed. We might add, And the desire for power.

There are no easy-to-do answers to these difficulties, for human nature cannot be changed ; but it can be tamed. How can it be tamed? Do you really wish me to make myself unpopular? OK It can be tamed by imposing an effective moral code.

Thanks Jamie. I shall follow your advice. But don’t you think it is a nice piece of wry idiocy?

Ike, me mate, what you be smokin?

Seriously, I have to agree with Jamie. Greed, the desire for power, and the downward spiral of our morals can only lead to the same end that brought down previous great civilizations.

Imposing a strict moral code on a UK or America would be difficult enough, but trying to convince someone like the Iranians or Chinese they need to change their ways would only get a big belly laugh out of them. Hell, they are trying and making headway in changing us as we speak.

I’m becoming more and more resigned to the fact, that history repeats it’s self and there is nothing ordinary people can do to stop it. Humans can’t change their basic nature any more than a leopard can change it’s spots.

Regarding energy. Canada seems to be the only country that has an abundance of it and is, at the moment, being run by somewhat sane people. I really envy those folks. However, they are still putting their future stability at risk with their liberal immigration policies.

The Space Program, was an easy target for Obama. He has put thousands of talented people out of work and will divert the monies to thousands who have not worked in generations and don’t plan on starting in anytime soon.

Back to China and Russia,You can forget ever getting Americans to start wanting to live in societies like theirs, it’s not going to happen as long as the Vietnam era folks are still alive. We are getting highly pissed at the daily edicts being handed down by un-elected Obama bureaucrats that affect every aspect of out lives. We don’t need or want central planning from our nanny state federal government.
The sooner the current adminstration bastards are voted out of office the better! They are only hastening the downfall of our country.

      Cheechdog

Only still smoking my usual old pipes with regular good tobacco after my ole granddad who lived to be 88.

Well, then I agree with you and Jamie on some things. You must have noticed that I wrote this in jest. But if you say that Americans will never live like Chinese you have a big old problem out there on this point. In China the still hang the big thieves for corruption and theft. I can go on and on.

America of the 50 States is OK. But you have too many of the 57 States.

I don’t subscribe to the “norm” that history repeats itself; sometimes incidents do look the same; some people say the Romans sodomized themselves out of an empire and it looks like some Americans would love to repeat that. But in the end it is each nation for himself.

When I quoted China and others there are many points that come up. People in China are as free as you in many ways but they won’t tolerate a flag burner; it’s freedom with responsibility. Now I know that I am sticking my head into it but here goes. China had no other choice on Tiananmen Square way back and did the right thing for China that day.

America today has a large wayward society that badly needs a real catastrophe to get some sense into their heads. You mention the “current administration bastards” and the need to vote them out of office. I am on your side ole friend, but I do have a feeling that you had Americans who voted to put them there in the first place.

But I am pleased America has guys like you, and wish you luck.

Thanks, gentlemen. I love being odd man out. Greed and the desire for power, in addition to being the motivations for Adam Smith’s Invisible Hand, are what get people worked up enough to try to surpass themselves. Without them there would be no Sistine Chapel ceiling, no Don Giovanni. Just big-eyed urchins and elevator music.

    • Ike Jakson Says:

Well said, odd man out. But I would have expected more from your scalpel-sharp brain on the general idiocy of my viewpoints.
