Ikepedia on The languages that we Speak part 2

March 31, 2013

I told you in OldSpeak, NewSpeak,…etc. Part 1 that it would be part of a lengthy series.

To even start to find an acceptable or a sufficiently comprehensive definition of speaking one has to go into the source[s] and origin[s] of speech.

The shortest route may serve us well in this case because I want to get back to Orwell 1984 and his NewSpeak as soon as possible.

The first consideration is the natural one; that the ability to speak and the source of the languages that we speak are in the environment where a little baby [or a little animal] first opens his/her eyes to life and becomes aware of sound, only provided that the hearing is normal.

Animal lovers, students of animal life and habits [well supported by science] will tell us that animal speech develops much faster than human speech does because in many instances their lifespan is very short and they have to learn fast in order to survive.  Let us step off animal speech but believe me, it is a wide field; humans should at the very least be aware of the fact that it does indeed exist.

Let us now go back to human speech and stay with it for the purposes of this series.

You can Google or spend as much time as you have or wish to devote in Wikipedia to trace the existence and origins of the thousands of languages and dialects spoken in the World today.  For Ikepedia suffices to state that starting out with the smallest environment of a normal home the young new arrival will in the course of time be Italian, Spanish, Russian, Chinese …….in normal homogenous nations.  In America alone, once having lost the status of homogenous speech, anything becomes possible.  Unfortunately America is not the first or only one in this awkward situation but that is a distinctly separate topic for another day.

It therefore, follows naturally that there must have been sufficient distance between groups or societies to develop separate languages.  Surely no one can argue that.

One important point comes up immediately; human beings think in the language that they speak.  Language thus becomes the symbol of all thought and activity within the boundaries of that group, and achievement, development and the inner fiber of that society is founded in the language that they speak.

Don’t mess with your language.  Next time when we continue it will be back to Orwell.

Government Ponzi Schemes

March 29, 2013

In South Africa a Ponzi Scheme is an Investment Scheme or Trust [often fraudulent] that runs on a pyramid style offering to pay very high interest on investments and the Top guy [s] siphon off great sums of money into private back pockets whilst paying the high interest rates from the cash flow generated by new investments.

It works much like Democracy in America.  A career in Politics pays better than drug trafficking or crime combined.

In South Africa we have gone one step further though I believe that then Americans are learning real fast and are catching up on us.  There was a time in Capitalism that the entrepreneur was the highest earner, obviously as a natural award for risking his own money and bonding his personal assets, but in our New Democracy Government salaries are now way ahead of entrepreneurial income levels.  Parliament first set the example but they were soon overtaken by 8 to 5 Municipal Managers [“Executives”] now “earning” the big bucks, driving the luxury cars and living the high life in the Mansions built for Kings.  Screw the “low-down” working poor and the unemployed, has become the slogan; “let them bake their own cake and eat it”, whilst reducing the smaller entrepreneur to the poor working class and taxing him to pay for the extravagances of the New Rich.

It works like a Ponzi scheme; the only difference is that their one is legal.  Is it not ironic that it seems to surprise them when a private individual starts a small scheme of his own?  Out comes the law: freeze the bank account of the intruder; strip him of his assets; fast act, get him out of the way in no time at all.  They don’t suffer competition easily; after all they are in the Big League and intend to retain the leadership role.

Read some more about one of my favorites; well I was a favorite of them too until I withdrew my investment support:

Telkom SA and China

March 23, 2013

China performed their first nuclear test in October 1964; the announcement came after the event in typical fashion of their Nation; then they withdrew from the World political scene.  Tiananmen Square 1989 reverberated around the world but China did not take part in the shouting.

The silent giant developed a good relationship with America through Former President Bush during his two terms in Office.  Nobody shouted much when Taiwan was brought back into the fold during that time.

They embraced capitalism without shouting about it; formed strong pacts with Russia and Australia and when the previous century ended China was ready to enter the World Economic Stage in a big way; they had in the meantime slipped into many an African Country; only on request, but always on their [China’s] conditions.

 Enters Telkom, oh goody, goody….

A south African Court has no jurisdiction in China; for Telkom to rejoice is a little premature.  You can’t fool China and get away with it.  Telkom’s current splurge on the laughable “convergence” idea started prematurely, even before the Court decision.  The Advertising Executives and the Media [it is good to see Fin24 getting a fair share] are laughing all the way to the banks.

Make no mistake; it is raising eyebrows in China.  Telkom is terminally ill on the inside and it is only a matter of time before China will do what they have to do.

The ironic part of the Telkom story is that it is still a good fixed line telephone Company; that’s how they started and where they should stay or bow out of the industry altogether.

Unless of course, the 32 member Government appointed Board of Directors share a death wish…..?  That will be sad for the hard-working loyal “field men” erecting old-time telephone phone poles year round, wiring the cables and  attending to maintenance of the system in the sweat of the brow.  If Fin24 should so wish I shall take some photos of what they installed on the fence with me and my neighbour just recently.  It was my pleasure to pour them some coffee.

One guy was a giant of a man with a firm clear but soft voice and a permanent full face caring smile.  I asked him for his name.

“They call me Kleintjie Sir,” he said with a wry good natured grunt before he thanked me for the coffee and walked off to the duties awaiting him.

Jabulane, there is no way you can “converge” this kind of man with the woolly Internet dreams that you are wasting your time and our money on.   Rather diverge yourself from the mess before you get involved in the inevitable demise of a once great business that somehow lost its way.

Don’t mess with China; you will regret it rather sooner than later if you ignore this good advice.  Do read:

Ikepedia on NewSpeak, OldSpeak and Froggy Stories

March 20, 2013

George Orwell published his book called 1984 in 1949 following on his essay called Animal farm in 1946.

Many scholars have examined the validity of his works and many different views have been expressed on his choice of 1984 to predict [in a way sort of] the time frame for the unfolding of the event[s]; some equally well-known researchers even claim that he might have had 2020 in mind for the time when it would become reality.

There is even greater division among researchers of who Orwell had in mind in his musings.  Many have said that he meant it to present a picture of Russia in 1984.  I read the book differently.  To my mind the work was not aimed at Russia or Communism at all [the proof is there that it never came about in Russia in the way he wrote about Big Brother controlling the minds and actions of the people through a television screen].  He certainly had a vision of something and being far ahead in thinking at the time already alluded to it in Animal Farm, thus predicting a change in the natural hierarchy of the species by putting the Animals in charge and eventually reducing mankind to the level of the visitor at the Zoo.  Just for a moment try and see us through the eyes of the monkey and the tiger in the Zoo.  How do they see I us?  Species Homo sapiens move along the designated paved walkways eating ice cream, waving little flags and hot air balloons with the Animals looking on in amazement at these strange creatures on the other side of the fence.  Who is behind the bars and who is free?  Indeed I may ask who is in bondage.

Let me get back to how we speak; also allow me to jump in like a frog.

Contrary to common thinking Animals do speak and they are [and have been] consistent in their methods of communication with others.  Homo sapiens are the species that failed, and in my mind that was the real thrust behind Orwell’s Animal Farm and 1984.

Have a look at this one and jot down the figures on a piece of paper.  LOL

LOL LOL LeeHaaw Heehaw [ditto as many times as you want].

Ever since the Darwin idiot wrote his silly book Man cannot decide whether the earth and everything on or in it have been around for six thousand years as some would have it or six thousand trillion years as others claim; scientists are baffled and quote figures; archeologists pick up or dig a bone out and quote other different figures; “nature conservation” ideologists and various do-gooder groups see a frog for the first time in their lives and we have another conference in some luxury hotel, sparkling vino and caviar by the barrel [don’t talk about the poor for at least one day] and let us talk about little frogs.

What we simply don’t seem to realize is that froggies, bugs, ants, fruit flies [hundreds of species] trillions of these little things are on the move all the time.  They survive by moving when they get fed-up with all the noise we make.

There you have it now.  Take it as my first and opening shot about the chosen headline.

With Compliments to my email friend John

When I emailed to thank him he replied “Semper Fi” because we understand each other.  John uses words in the way that good people do [sparingly but not grudgingly, sharp and concise but lots of flavor, with him words are golden]; his Blog and all his Posts are quality stuff; as is his fine mind.  But he doesn’t miss good humor.

This letter was sent to the Lions Bay School Principal’s office in West Vancouver after the school had sponsored a luncheon for seniors.

An elderly lady received a new radio at the lunch as a door raffle prize and was writing to say thank you.

This story is a credit to all humankind.  Forward this to anyone you know who might need a lift today…

 “Dear Lions Bay School:

God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent Senior Citizens luncheon.

I am 87 years old and live at the West Vancouver Home for the Aged.  All of my family has passed away so I am all alone.  I want to thank you for the kindness you have shown to a forgotten old lady…

My roommate is 95 and has always had her own radio. She would never let me listen to it.  She said it belonged to her long dead husband, and understandably, wanted to keep it safe.

The other day her radio fell off the nightstand and broke into a dozen pieces.  It was awful and she was in tears. She asked if she could listen to mine, and I was overjoyed that I could tell her to fuck off.

Thank you for that wonderful opportunity.  God bless you all.

Isn’t it wonderful at that age; it is my wish to send it to my children as soon as I get there but meantime I am distributing it to bankers, lawyers, investment specialists and all the other thieves and crooks including Telkom SA.
