He was my neighbor and my friend; a man with a smile and a good word for anyone.
He worked the fields; used his own bare hands when he had to; never once did I hear him complain about the cards dealt to him.
In the distance of time behind us somewhere his Grandfather on his mother’s side and my father had a common uncle with the same Christian names given to them at birth; the Dutch maintained the old family name system as recorded in the Family Bible.
Two years ago he was healthy and strong as an ox; then the cruel disease appeared and he crossed the river to join our Lord and Creator this past Monday March 16th.
We will miss you Jannie; your dear young wife and the two beautiful little ones will be cared for as you would have done.
Rest in peace, cousin and good friend. The trees you planted and loved so much will forever remind us that you were one of the best of us. The values you held dear will be preserved intact and remind us of you.

Well, I guess you can’t get old yet. More work cut out for you.

Nimrod old Friend
Jannie was half of my life; it is a bad time for all of us. Remember me in your prayers. He was the sort of man you would have loved and there is a huge void of emptiness in my heart. I am a loner by nature but have rarely felt lonely in my life, indeed if ever. Tonight I am.
